Special Olympics Changes – July 2020

Hello Carroll County,

My name is Ashley Hyde and I am the Community Network Coordinator for the Carroll County Board of Developmental Disabilities. As some of you may know, on June 30, 2020 the Special Olympic Coordinator, Tomi Moore, stepped down after 28 years of service.  On July 1, 2020 I added the position of Special Olympic Coordinator to my current job title. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I am excited to see where this adventure takes this county.

I do plan on making some changes to the way that Special Olympics has run in the past. One of the main changes will be the sign-ups. In the past sign-ups were once a year and all of the sports options were on one sign- up sheet. Now, there will be a sign-up sheet for each sport at the beginning of each season. Sign-ups will be shared various ways. If you would like to be on the email list for Special Olympics please send your information to ahyde@carrollcbdd.org.

Another change will be more sports options. This year we added a Carroll County Golf Team. If you would like to join the golf team please contact me. There will be other new sports added in the future as well. More information on this will be released at a later date.

Sports will look a little different this fall and winter due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and guidelines on this will be released to each participant in the Special Olympics. I am working with the Special Olympics of Ohio to ensure that safety measures are being taken. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

I look forward to this experience and I thank you for your time and patience.

Ashley Hyde

Special Olympic Coordinator
