June 2022 Success Story

Sonya Livengood

Sonya Livengood

Sonya has been moving closer to her goal of becoming an independent and responsible member of the community.  In March 2021, Sonya began attending Carrollton Starlight Enterprises day program where she made great progress while learning self-advocacy skills. In August 2021, Sonya advocated to move out of her family home and into the community with a roommate.  Even though household chores can be difficult at times, she’s loved every second of her newfound independence and still feels this a positive move.  Sonya attends four of the five day site providers in Carroll County with a goal of making enough money to obtain a cell phone plan of her own.  She works in the kitchen at St. John’s Villa, at the FFA Camp with Starlight Enterprises, cleans bathrooms at Mayle Homes Lakehouse and shreds paper at Carroll Hills Industries.  Sonya recently began working with OOD (Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities) to find a community job.  She chose “You Belong” as her provider and obtained a job at Wendy’s within a month of working with them.  Sonya has completed orientation and begins working this week.  Excellent job Sonya, we know you can do it!
